About Moira Doherty

From leaving school at the age of 17 until starting her own business at the age of 30, Moira Doherty had a total of 27 jobs. From being an air stewardess to a sales rep, nothing seemed to hold her attention for long enough. Having grown up with a dad who worked for himself, it’s no wonder that Moira’s focus, without her realising it, was more on her being her own boss.

Her light bulb moment came just before her 30th birthday,  she was earning a good salary, had a company car and a house but knew if she allowed herself, she could still be living the same life 20 years down the line.

Launching her pub décor business, she worked for blue chip breweries across the UK, including Scottish and Newcastle, Whitbread and Wetherspoons, branding all of them beautifully. Using her sales skills and knowledge gained from her 27 jobs, she worked exclusively alongside a team of female fitters to ensure the results had a more feminine feel.

A huge animal lover, it wasn’t long before Moira and her partner, found a way to combine their passion with work. They purchased a quarantine kennel in the midlands and by the age of 38, Moira owned two large houses, 17 acres and a two-acre lake in Rugby, Warwickshire. She also continued to refurbish the pubs at the same time.

When she reached her late forties, Moira realised she had become disillusioned with life. A new chapter in southern Spain beckoned, and for ten years, she lived her dream, having built a stunning home on a hillside overlooking the Mediterranean Sea South of Granada.

Whilst there, she was approached by the parents of a groom to be, who asked if she could help plan their son’s wedding as they didn’t live in Spain permanently. Moira immediately fell in love with wedding planning, and at the age of 51 began Perfect Spanish Weddings, which is now a six-figure business, which she still runs successfully today.

But far from her story ending there, Moira knew there was something else missing; a purpose that needed her attention. As a 61-year-old serial entrepreneur, she’s now shining the light on women aged 45 and over, who feel they have nothing left to offer. She wants them to know anything is possible, and her success later in life, shows what can be achieved.

Her movement for older women, who lack confidence or feel like life has passed them by, is still in its early stages. But already her Group called “life Begins at 45” is rapidly growing in popularity. These are women who want to stand up and be counted, and who feel there’s something more for them out there, much like Moira did 30 years ago when she embarked on running her first business.
